Billions of years ago the Moon was formed.
Here it goes...
A young Earth was growing. But a proto-planet the size of Mars was approaching the Earth. It was getting closer and closer and closer until suddenly it collided into the Earth! It was a high impact!
The Earth absorbed a lot of the proto-planet. But what happened to the rest of it...
The rest of it became debris. That debris started forming into a ball because gravity pulled it in making it collect everything that went past it. Soon it started to orbit the Earth.
Would we be able to live without a moon?
We wouldn't be able to live without a Moon because at night time we wouldn't have anything that would absorb the Sun's light so we wouldn't be able to see anything at night.

find out how we get day and night
We get day and night because 50% of the earth is in night, and the other 50% is in the day time.
Do you know why?
I will tell you why. The earth has gravity which causes it to rotate. As the earth rotates half of it has day, but if it does one half turn the day side will have night.
It is the same with the night side. That means the earth`s two halves take turn to have day and night.

How we have day and night
In school recently our topic has been space and today I am going to tell you about how we have day and night. We have night and day because the earth is always rotating.if the earth did not rotate then we would never have day and night.
Day time is when half of the earth is facing the sun whereas night time is when the other half of the earth is facing the other side of the sun.

Day and night.
The reason why we have day and night is that the planet, is plunged in 50% day and night the sun. Is extremely and deadly hot but the moon isn't warm although it is dark on the moon so the sun, and the moon do the oposite reasons. By AF
Why does saturn have rings?
Scientists who study space have ideas but no one actually knows why.
| Saturn by nasa photography |
However, we know what there made out of, they are made out of lots of asteroids in Saturn's orbit
My idea of why does Saturn have rings is that asteroids in space constantly flying in space got trapped in Saturn's orbit and that's what I think the answer is.

Happy New Year/Space Club
Happy New Year to all our blog readers!
We were excited to come back to school yesterday after a relaxing Christmas break, especially because we started a new topic - Space! Over the next few weeks we will be trying to find answers to some of the questions that we wrote last term, such as: how was the universe formed?; why do we have eclipses?; and what is space made of?
After school some of us worked with Mr Farrell in the first meeting of our new 'Space Club'. Although the horrible, wet weather meant that we couldn't go out and use our new telescope outdoors, we still had an interesting time finding out about how different types of telescopes work and talking about some of the things that we might be able to see in the night sky over the next few weeks.
Thanks, Mr Farrell!
